Craftsy Open Studios

Two weeks from today, I will be in Houston, Texas attending my first ever International Quilt Festival. I’ve heard all kinds of stories about this quilt-making mecca, and this year, I’m going to see it for myself.

I will be one of the artists demo-ing their work at Craftsy’s Open Studios. What is this? Well, I will tell you what I know. First of all, Craftsy is an online warehouse of internet classes, patterns, and supplies for all types of DYI activities. From cake making to quilting, you will find it on Craftsy.

craftsylogo1Open Studios exists during festival right inside the food court. Craftsy sets up four cute little studios where  artists demo their work.

The other studios are called Paint, Quilt, and Stitch. I will be demo-ing techniques in all four studios.

On Thursday, October 31st, I will be in the Paint Studio demo-ing Painting with Your Rotary Cutter from Noon-2 P.M. No, I don’t actually stick my rotary cutter into paint, but I do use it very much like a painter uses a paint brush.

Birch Woods GlimmerOn Friday, November 1st, I will be in the Quilt Studio demo-ing Artful Machine Quilting from Noon- 2 P.M. I’ll be stitching and talking about my approach to quilting which is basically quilt, quilt, and quilt some more.

The TripOn Saturday, November 2nd, I will be in the Stitch Studio demo-ing Piecing with Prints from Noon- 2 P.M. If you are wondering how I splice prints in my Color Grids series, stop by and I will show you.

_D1A2551Also on Saturday, I will be in the Embellish Studio demo-ing Artful Appliqué from 2:00- 4:00 PM. I’ll be sharing my take on the old school technique of Broderie Perse. This method of appliqué is great for creating community quilts.

Friday November 1st 12-2 Artful Machine Quilting
Saturday, November 2nd 12-2 Piecing with Prints
Saturday November 2nd 2-4 Artful Appliqué

If you are at the Festival, I really hope you will stop by and say hello. It would be great to see a friendly face or two. And if any of you have suggestions how a first timer might successfully experience Houston, I would love to hear them.

  1. Adding your schedule to my google calendar! I will look for you! I am a first timer, but I have been told not to “over schedule” and wear really comfy shoes! I’ll be there from Sun-Sunday.

  2. Damn, your birds are so cute!
