Kato camouflaging himself as an unfinished quilt.

IMG_4081Another mid-week snow.

IMG_4089IMG_4094Every year, I share with students all the fun things you can do with felted wool as part of Explorations Day at O’Malley Elementary School.

IMG_4102IMG_4110Our new-to-us McCarthy Hauler loaded up for its maiden voyage to McCarthy, Alaska.

IMG_4141I know I don’t have to say it, but really, this is breath taking country.

IMG_4205 IMG_4219 IMG_4222Hatcher Pass is by far the windy-iest, windiest part of the trip.

IMG_4150I much prefer the straight away heading towards GlennAllen.

IMG_4225It’s always good to make it to GlennAllen in time for coffee.

IMG_4229This is a 320 mile trip with only five turns. The final one is a left at Chitina.

IMG_4238The portal to McCarthy, Alaska. Don’t mind the cracked windshield. Trust me. It is very Alaskan.

IMG_4248The mighty Copper River home to the best salmon in the world.

IMG_4253The road to McCarthy from Chitina is a 60 mile long dirt road that’s for the most part built on an old railroad track. Can you imagine riding that train?

IMG_4281Trees and more trees. There is just something about trees. A birch stand is always a good thing.

IMG_4291 IMG_4286Almost there.

IMG_4295Running towards our cabin.

IMG_4304Here is our little gold miner’s cabin built by a miner for his bride in 1920. I’m pretty sure she would have veto’ed the tent he was living in prior to their marriage.

If Copper Valley HIGH speed internet holds true to its name, I hope to share more McCarthy adventures in the days to come. Happy Spring Break!

OMG I am with you in spirit. If Zac wants some help with wood. Tell Fletch I will pay them both… Fletch extra to split what Jack hauls in…. in addition to what there is to stack. These photos are killing me girlfriend.!

Wonderful pictures. That’s a sweet little green cabin. Here’s hoping you’ll get some sun on those solar panels!
