Project EveryDay Update #5

It’s clearly the middle of May. I am not quite sure how that happened. I think this is the fastest year on record. I feel like I have been dreaming that I dozed off and when I woke up a half a year had gone by.
My plan is to just keep putting one foot in front other. This is where I stand today.
As most of you know, I took the Me Made May pledge to wear only garments I have made for the month of May. If you are wondering, I am excluding under and outer. The only thing that makes me more anxious than sewing jeans is sewing underwear.
I am half-way finished with Me Made May, and I have learned so much! I have recorded what I have worn every day in my day journal, but in full disclosure some of these outfits are re-enactments. Okay, all of them are.
Photographing daily what you wear is difficult. I am going to try and do a better job for the second half of the month.
Here is what I wore for the first week. I was attending Latitude: 2014 Alaska Arts Convergence for the first few days.
Day One, I wore one of my favorite outfits so far.
A up-cycled wool shrug created using the Renfrow Sewaholic pattern as a sloper, a black cotton t-shirt also from the Renfro Sewaholic pattern, and a denim skirt inspired by an old denim skirt of mine and drafted using the Make it Perfect a+skirt pattern as a sloper.

A black linen and vintage plaid woven t-shirt made by using the Scout pattern by Grainline, a gray striped knit tunic made from Katherine Tilton’s Tunic pattern by Butterick B5925, and a self drafted elastic waist A-line skirt made from stretch wool jersey.

I wore an up-cycled wool jacket based on a vintage Pucci Pattern and the same black t-shirt and denim skirt I wore on day one.

The tunic is made from wool and vintage kimono fabric using the Laurel pattern by Colette and the self drafted black wool knit skirt from day two.

The shirt is an up-cycled men’s dress shirt converted into a woven women’s t-shirt using the Scout pattern by Grainline paired with denim pj bottoms using a random pattern called Sew Easy Pajama Pants.

A fleece snuggly based on the Victory Lola pattern, the denim skirt inspired by the Make it Perfect A+Skirt pattern, and the ever popular black t-shirt made from the Sewaholic Renfrew pattern. The make-look-good accessories are a beautiful handmade scarf and groovy socks.

I paired the denim pajama bottoms with a Scout t-shirt made of vintage floral cotton fabric and black linen.

Pockets are not optional.
I should have made more warm weather clothing–who knew we were going to have one of the warmest May’s ever.
It helps to have a streamlined color palette so that you can get the maximum out of the minimum. Right now I have a few brown pieces and a few blue pieces that won’t work together. The black and grey pieces goes either way. I have decided to go with black, grey, and shades of blue as I continue to build this wardrobe. Blue feels more like summer.
I am wearing a travel wardrobe. It fits in a suitcase, and what I’ve got is what I’ve got. It’s weirdly liberating.
I miss my jeans. The PJ bottoms aren’t really an adequate substitute. I am finding that I am choosing skirts instead. I do have some other creative pant solutions in the pipeline.
I like doing this.
Happy Friday people!
