I am getting ready for another BIG trip. This Saturday evening, October 17, I will take a red-eye to Columbus, Ohio for one more week of study with Nancy Crow. I’m taking a class that Nancy is teaching for the first time called Compositional Exercises.

From there, I will head to Houston, Texas where I am teaching for the first time at the International Quilt Festival. If you are interested in learning more about what I am teaching while there check out this blog post. I should also say that I am presenting two 1/2 hour long Meet the Teacher demos on the festival floor. Both of these presentations are called Making Prints out of Solids, and they are scheduled for Friday, October 30 from 2:30- 3:00 and Sunday, November 1 from 10:30 – 11:00. After the festival is over, I will be flying to Portland to meet our oldest son. From there, we are going to drive the west coast and look at colleges. This oldest son doesn’t like me to mention his name because girls have googled him and found pictures of him on this blog. How embarrassing.

I am very much looking forward to this road trip. The final destination is Santa Cruz, California where I will be teaching a one day workshop for the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild. I understand there are still spaces available. The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 9AM to 4:30PM at the Congregational Church in Soquel, California. One of the hi-lights of this trip is going to be the chance to give a lecture on the community quilt I made with the residents of Moore Place while I was in residence at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation.

I’ve written about this experience many times in the past year. In HOME is HOME I did a complete wrap up on that project with links to all of the other blog posts about the subject.

If you are going to be at festival and want to attend the lecture, you can. It is on Wednesday October 28 from 4PM- 5PM. As I have been preparing for this lecture, I have been thinking a lot about how great that residency experience was.

One of the many perks to the experience was to have professional photographer Ben Premeaux photograph me while I worked in my amazing studio. These are the photographs from that shoot. Cathedral windows! Space! Light! It was amazing.

Additionally, Ben made a video featuring all the artists who were in residence last fall. When I was in Charlotte, North Carolina last May to install HOME, I saw some clips of the video, but I did not see the segment about me.

Today, I made myself watch it. And you know what? It is pretty darn cool. I hope you will take a moment to check it out. Seeing all the amazing artists I got to live and work with for that two month period really brings back great memories. I think the video is a loop and I am the second artist, but I could be wrong. Each segment is a few minutes long.

This might just be the first time I’ve written a blog post as a form of procrastination! I’ve got work to do.

While I am traveling, I will be sharing the my adventures on Instagram. You can follow me at Tales of a Stitcher, or not. I never really want to encourage people to be on their cells phones. Still, it is a great way to say in touch while traveling.

And I will try to post weekly here.
