I know. It is the end of April, but I am going to tell you about March. This was ALMOST the first month without a blog posting since I began this adventure in December of 2012, but it is not.

What’s been happening?

The first part of March was rather uneventful. So uneventful, I needed to check my daily journal to see just what the heck I was doing. According to my records, I did a lot of non-profit work. (And procrasti-knitting according to this page of the journal.)Walt and I spent a day caucusing for Bernie. Who knew there were so many socialists in Alaska? The line was long, but the feeling you get from participating in the democratic process is totally worth it.I am still documenting the hand made clothing that I am wearing every day this year.  This “happening” is called Project Every Day.  I have been photo bombed by my favorite photographer son # 3 aka as Tripp.  Here he is running up to ruin the photo.And, as he nows says with great regularity—Mom, you are short! And I say, I know this son, but there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

And then there is Kato who loves to cat bomb.

Or you can just go here and look at all of the images at once and be done with it.  I am writing a weekly documentation of the project on my website, but that is not going as well–I am behind. Still,  if you are interested in making any of the garments, this is the place where I will be listing the pattern, fabric, etc… 

I finished knitting a poncho that I am very pleased with. The pattern is Easy Folded Poncho by Churchmouse Yarns and Teas and the yarn is Cascade Yarns Alpaca Lana D’Oro .

I am still working on the socks. Note to any new knitters out there—for your very first pair of socks, do not pick a twisty black yarn and a pattern that uses US #1 needles.

If you haven’t already seen this fabulous movie—do it. Trumbo is excellent. I have long known about his work, but I had no idea about the politcal history that was happening along side the writing. 

On Monday evening March 28, I took a red eye with the a middle school hockey team. It was not as bad as it sounds.

I arrived in Philadelphia on Tuesday.  This was the beginning of what I am calling my East Coast Tour.  The first stop was the SAQA 2016 Annual Conference.

On Wednesday March 29, many of us went to the Barnes Foundation.  LOVED it. One man’s incredible art collection displayed exactly as he wanted it to be. The displays are visual feast of color, pattern, and repetition—all things I can’t seem to ever get enough of. Photos were not allowed, but here is the gateway to all of the amazingness.

That day ended with a splendid dinner. A meeting of artists from three states–Oregon, Alaska, and Texas. I look forward to being with these people whenever I can be and hope we make this an annual tradition.

On the last day of March, I visited the Synderman-Works Gallery  and listened to the owners talk about their life long dedication to fiber and art.

I must admit, as happens with openings of any sort, I spent more time talking than looking. Still, this piece is one I am not going to forget. Fontleroy Plantation by Stephen Beal documents in embroidery a relative’s inventory of possessions including slaves. I love fibers ability to deliver razor sharp messages.

I received the catalogue for Focus: Fiber 2016. 

The catalogue is beautiful, and I am sure the show is even better.  The exhibition, including This Quilt is Technotronic, will be on display from February 12, 2016 – July 3, 2016 at the Kent State University Museum in Kent, Ohio.

And finally, I should say that I am headed back to Pennsylvania on May 4th. I will be in Pittsburgh to attend the opening of Fiberart International 2016.  I have work in the show and well, that is something worth celebrating with another red eye. It always feel so good when I write a blog post after being absent. It is great to be back!
