# 384 Show Your Work
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 2016 2PM – 5PM
Are you ready to exhibit your work at festivals and galleries? This is the workshop for you. We will be discussing the following topics—finding shows and entering them, the benefits of a thick skin, photographing your work, resume building, writing artist statements and bios as well as other great information for getting your work out there. We had a lot of fun in this workshop last year. There was good support and information sharing among the class attendees. This blog post called SHOW YOUR WORK is a taste of what we will be covering in our three hours together.
# 453 Artful Oven Mitts
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2016 9AM-NOON
Learn all the basics of quilt making—piecing, quilting, and binding while creating an artful oven mitt. These are perfect gifts for the holidays and are super fun to make. Okay, this class is currently full which makes me feel wanted, but means you can’t sign up for it online. Still, you might be able to sign up at festival. # 469 LECTURE-Traditional, Art, and Modern–Notes From Field
THURSDAY NOVEMBER 3, 2016 4PM-5PM
I started out as a traditional quilter, but eventually I began to make abstract pieced art quilts that look surprisingly modern. This is my personal journey in and about the traditional, art, and modern quilt movements. Can you be all three? Come to the lecture and find out. The linking of these three components of our quilting world has been rattling around in my brain for a while. I can’t wait to find out what I am going say. How do these things fit together? And if you attend the lecture, please come up and say hi before or afterwards. I love meeting my readers.
# 527 Lines + Triangles = Squares
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2016 9AM-12PM AND 2PM-5PM
During this class, students will learn the basics of cutting without rulers, selecting beautiful palettes, and working without a pattern while creating a fabulous quilt composed of beautiful shot cotton fabrics. Okay, this class is full as well. But check the class board in Houston, and maybe you will get a last minute spot. I must say having two full classes does feel extra special.
Modern Broderie Perse
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2016 6PM-9PM
This is an awesome class. Every time I teach it, I am amazed at how much fun students have while building their own flower bouquet or garden. We learn the basics of Modern Broderie Perse while making a fabulous fusible appliqué wall hanging. While everyone will be using the same technique, the quilt you make will be one of a kind art quilt. This class has openings! Come spend your Friday night with me. We will party with the Wonder Under. Students last year had a great time.
I will be in Houston all week, so please introduce yourself if you see me wandering around. And if I am shopping, remind me that it all has to fit the suitcases.

You can print your own postage from USPS.com and leave them with the concierge at the hotel to put in the outgoing mail. Bring some empty flat rate boxes with you before you leave home! Print in the hotel business center. 🙂 Wish I was going to be there. I am going to try next year. This year I will be in San Antonio from the 15-29th of October, and just didn’t have the budget for the trip to Houston. Next year…………

Sad to tell you this, Maria, but they have a “fill your box” option on the second floor of the convention center. You can drop by as often as you like and add stuff to your box. At the end, they seal and ship it for you. It’s worth every penny.
Janet– You are not supposed to tell me these things! But now that I know, I will check it out. I hate lugging around overweight suitcases which is what I usually do.
Maria — Just wanted to follow-up after class yesterday (I was the Teacher’s Pet). I really enjoyed the class and went home with some new ideas and 24 triangles — enough for a little quilt of 3×2 squares. I didn’t want to sew any squares together until I had a chance to lay out and play with arrangements. 😉
