I received an email from Liz Good the Visual Arts Coordinator for the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado. The email contained a virtual tour of the 36th Annual New Legacies Contemporary Art Quilts Exhibition. I enjoyed the tour so much, I thought I would share it here. First, let’s take a look at the venue.
The Lincoln Center features two performing art spaces, two Art Gallery spaces, an outdoor Rooftop Deck and Terrace, and three other indoor conference rooms for meetings, receptions, corporate events and community gatherings. That sounds pretty fancy.
Virtual tours are a great way for people to enjoy an exhibit even though they can’t travel to the show in person.
This is the 36th year for this exhibition which means the first New Legacies was in 1982. The first Quilt National was in 1979.
The first Artist as QuiltMaker was in 1982. Their website says, “The Artist as Quiltmaker is the second-longest-running art quilt exhibition in the world”.
Does that mean New Legacies is the third-longest-running art quilt exhibit? I don’t know, but it does have a long and excellent reputation.
350 works were submitted for consideration for this show. I could not find an official number for the pieces that were exhibited, but I would estimate that about 45 pieces were included in the show.
There were several 3D pieces in the show.
The layout of the exhibtion is very thoughtful.
I have two pieces in the show–To Agnes Martin, with Color is in the lobby gallery next to a piece by the fabulous Hope Wilmarth.
And Wall of Sound is in the main gallery next to work by the lovely Elena Stokes.
If you live near Fort Collins, there is still time to see the show. The exhibition runs from July 6 through September 1, 2018.

Thank you Debby. I don’t know why this show continues to remain a bit under the radar. Maybe it is because the venue is also a performing arts center? Now that I have seen how lovely the space is, and I visited Colorado and know I want to go back, I do believe I will be attending the opening if I get work in again.
