I have known Teresa Duryea Wong for several years. One thing that is absolutely true about Teresa is that when she gets an idea, it is more likely than not going to come out of her head as a book. She just works that way.
Awhile back, on a social media platform, Teresa asked her readers if they had created quilts made with American Made Brand solid cotton fabrics. She was interested in this fabric, and the company who made it.
I sent her an email saying, “Why yes, the quilt on the cover of my book was made from a flat rate box filled with AMB fabrics.”
From there, Teresa was off in pursuit of the story. She was going to learn everything she could about the Seattle based fabric company Clothworks, and why they decided to create their very own quilter’s cotton fabric grown and woven right here in the Unites States of America.
The book is 8×10 inches, soft cover, 156 pages, and full color. It features more than 80 quilts both antique and contemporary.
Including my quilt Mirror Ball, which Teresa borrowed for a fun photo shoot in a field of cotton located near Snook, Texas. It is on the cover of the book. How cool is that?
The book covers several different story lines including the story of the American cotton farmer, his daily life and struggles, and the cotton he grows and sells. Readers will be introduced to high-tech, agile growers, both men and women, who operate ‘smart farms’ and produce the world’s finest cotton.
She also shares some pretty interesting information about quilters. We are the single most passionate consumers of one-hundred percent cotton fabric.
She also looks at the efforts of a few intrepid individuals and forward-thinking companies who are determined to bring back one-hundred percent cotton fabric that is both grown, and manufactured, in the U.S.
It is a cool story, and I am glad Teresa put all of her smarts (and she has lot of them) into gathering this information and shaping it into a narrative.
