Videos Galore!

I know we are all maxed out on screen time. Yet, it is what we’ve got right now. We are either on the screen, or we are watching the screen. We are either scrolling, or we are trolling.

We crave human contact, but we are tired of doing it digitally. Touch your screen– that is as close as you are going to get.

That said.

Over the course of the past five months, I have been a part of several recorded virtual events that I think are worth sharing. Not so much so you watch me, but because you just might want to tune in for ALL the episodes.

Here are the links and details.

Quilt Stories
Australian artist, teacher, and speaker Lisa Walton decided to connect with others during Covid by creating her own Youtube Channel. Almost every week, Lisa shares a Quilt Story—it is brilliant really. Tune in to listen to Lisa talk with a different artist about the story behind the making of a favorite quilt.

Back in August, Lisa and I talked about my quilt Bear Fence. You can watch that video here. Lisa is incredibly fun to work with, and it shows in her videos.

Quilt Stories features my quilt Bear Fence.

When Lisa isn’t busy managing her very popular Youtube channel, she is  teaching. You learn more about Lisa and the workshops she offers here .

Textile Talks
Textile Talks is a collaborative online educational experience brought to you for FREE by a consortium of textile organizations. Here is what it says on the SAQA website.

“Textile Talks features weekly presentations and panel discussions from the International Quilt Museum, the Modern Quilt Guild, Quilt Alliance, San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, Studio Art Quilt Associates, and Surface Design Association. The programs are held online at 2 pm Eastern (11 am Pacific) each Wednesday and last approximately one hour. Preregistration is required and recordings are available. ”

How cool is that? Totally cool.

I talked about TRANCE in the TEXTILE TALK about the SAQA Global Exhibition Opposites Attraction.

I was part of the panel discussion about the SAQA Global Exhibition Opposites Attract. You can find out more about the artists, their work, and the video presentation here.

Global Quilt Connection
Global Quilt Connection is the brain child of quilt artists Lyric Kinard and Sue Bleiweiss. These two amazing women created Global Quilt Connection as an effort to connect quilt teachers and guilds during the virtual age of Covid.

On Tuesday, November 17, 2020 I will be part of their first live presentation which focuses on connecting students with virtual teachers who offer independent educational opportunities.  You can view that presentation here.

I also presented at the very first Global Quilt Connection event on August 5, 2020. You can watch a recording of that event here.

This was just the first of many Global Quilt Connection Events. To see a complete list, visit their website.

So, the next time you are looking for something good to watch—tune in to Quilt Stories, Textile Talks, and the Global Quilt Connection.

Folks, please stay safe. This too shall pass.

And in the meantime, as much as it is annoying and glitchy and no where near the real thing, thank goodness for ZOOM, YouTube, and all the other crazy digital ways we are staying connected.

Great compilation of all the wonders out there on the Internet, Maria! I agree that they are indeed worthwhile! And I love your little photo at the beginning of “you” getting ready to go on Zoom!
