I hope everyone is having a great summer. I have been enjoying getting outside as much as I can. Alaskan summers are always short and often cool and rainy. Every day of sunshine is a gift.
But I doubt that is why you are reading this. I think, I hope, you might just want to sign up for one of my Virtual Indie Quilt Workshops.
While you check your calendars, know that every session is recorded and available for you to view for approximately 30 days after the last session.
I also hope you will drool a bit over my student’s work from the workshop Linear Blocks—Line into Shape. The current session of Linear Blocks starts on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, and there is still time to sign up and get in on the action.
Here is my schedule for the rest of 2021.
LINEAR BLOCKS—LINE INTO SHAPE
Students will explore an assortment of traditional quilt blocks built with line and ways to individualize these blocks through cutting, color placement, repetition of block, and bit making.
Students will also be given information about working with solid colored fabrics, piecing techniques, and ideas for taking their quilt blocks and creating original quilt compositions.

CIRCLE AND CURVE SAMPLER
A complete discussion of all the ways you can improvisation-ally PIECE circles and curves. From braided curves to log cabin circles, students will be lead through a series of demos about non-linear improvisational piecing techniques and ideas for taking these techniques and creating original quilts. During the class, students create a collection of circle and curve quilt blocks–great for a sampler.

BIG BOTANY—ABSTRACTION THROUGH COLOR, PATTERN, AND REPETITION
Working from several sources of inspiration grounded in the natural world, students will work through a design process that emphasizes sketching, developing color palettes, creating pattern, and problem solving organic construction issues.

RIFFING ON TRADITION—Exploring Design Elements with Quilt Blocks
In this workshop, we combine the basic design elements of art with the traditional quilt block to create interesting, new, and dynamic quilt units. We will learn about basic design elements and study how individual quilt makers use these elements in their work. From there, students will begin to stitch their own quilt blocks based on design elements.

Hi Maria, I’m interested in the curve/circle online class but can’t make one of the sessions. Are the recordings made available right after each individual session so I could catch up before the next one?

Sarah- Thank you for your interest. Yes. The recordings are usually available a couple of hours after the session ends so you could easily watch and be caught up for the next session. Best!

These pieces look amazing. I hope when in person classes return and you (perhaps) come to Colorado I can take a class with you! I have not convinced myself I want to do any virtual art quilting classes.
Tierney- Virtual classes are way better! I think the spacing between sessions really allows students to progress. That said, I really do hope that I get invited to teach in Colorado in person. It is a great state to visit!
