Artist Jane Dunnwold is the current president of The Surface Design Association.
Over the years, Jane’s work has changed, but for me, it is consistently beautiful to look at.
I remember hearing her speak at the 2009 SDA conference in Kansas City where she shared the new direction her work was moving in. She had begun to create her own fabric by manipulating digital photographs and then printing the images on fabric. I must admit I was skeptical about this. I loved her old work and didn’t see any reason for her to change.
When I arrived at the San Antonio Airport, the first thing that greeted me after I got off the plane where these newer pieces. It was as if Jane were personally greeting me at the airport. These three pieces are part of Jane’s Sacred Planet Series.

One of the pre-conference adventures was an day long tour. Our first stop was Jane’s new studio space. I think everyone, especially artists and art lovers, enjoy the opportunity to peak into the spaces of people who make and create. What a treat to see an old home converted into such a great funky art making center. Here is my visual tour of that experience.
